FEU vs NU

Parang nag-aabang ng bibiktimahin ang mga NU Lady Bulldogs na sina Carmina Aganon (4), Cai Nepomuceno (8) at Aleona Santiago habang hinihintay na ibalik ni Christine Agno ng FEU ang bola.

Spikers dominate courts of sand

A fighter

Enormous digs on the rough sand and her immense saves off the court may leave the audience astonished on their seats while watching her wild plays. FEU’s Christine Agno is one of the new key additions for Coach Joseph Santos’ team.

She is the current libero of FEU Women’s Volleyball team and now changing her style from the solid court to the rough sands.

Adjusting is her top priority now as she is having a hard time regarding her performance on the sand court. The 18-year-old native of Legaspi City drastically gave emphasis on her struggles and how she adjusted.

“Nu’ng una talaga mahirap kasi iba yung galaw namin, pero tinulungan talaga ako ng Men’s [team] at ni Coach [Santos] mag-adjust t’saka sarili ko na din (At first it was hard because our moves was different, but the men’s team and Coach Santos really helped me a lot, and also myself),” said Agno.
Her struggles and discontentment served as her motivation to strived to be a better player.

Being a student-athlete, Agno confessed that she do not go out too much because of school works and all the trainings for the upcoming season.

“Sa gabi ko talaga ginagawa lahat. Kunyari, mga gagawa ng assignment, mag-aaral tapos maglalaba. (I am doing everything at night like my assignment, studying and my laundry),” she added.

Though playing for FEU would mean being far from home, no tears and pain would actually stop her from pursuing her passion and love for volleyball.

These two volleyball lovers won’t simply stop at nothing just to carry the green-and-gold flag all the way to the top. Two words will be the keys to grab the championship--hunger and focus.

Philippine Women’s Volleyball: My Dream Team

Let me start with my second libero. I would choose Christine Agno of FEU. Just like Reyes, she is very quick and she has a good anticipation one would always wonder how she manages to come out of nowhere for the digs and receptions. She is a prized recruit of coach Nes Pamilar and it would be good to have her in the national team.

UAAP Volleyball: Lady Tams shut Lady Warriors

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University proved to be unstoppable after overpowering University of the East in straight sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-11 in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday, December 4 at The Arena in San Juan.

Bernadette Pons anchored the Lady Tamaraws' attack in a battle of underdog squads with 10 attacks while Gyzelle Sy delivered 28 sets.

The much taller FEU crew utilized their size advantage as the smaller Lady Warriors succumbed in the match. UE also gave away points on errors while UST scored on blocks.

"We want to return to the Final Four. We missed the playoffs last year," said FEU head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

"Hopefully, magtuloy-tuloy. Hindi lang siya (Pons) pero lahat-lahat."

Underdogs FEU, UE lock horns

Far Eastern University targets a return to the Final Four when they open their 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament campaign against University of the East Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

After missing the semifinals last season, the Lady Tamaraws bring back the core of Gyzel Sy, Tin Agno and May Roxas as the perennial contenders look to gain their first title since 2008.

Sophomore Rem Palma also returns after an impressive rookie season even as freshman Bernadeth Pons makes her collegiate debut after a stellar high school career.

"Nandyan na yung potential," said head coach Shaq delos Santos. "Kailangan lang mas maging tight pa yung team at mabuo sila as one para maganda yung communication sa loob."

Delos Santos sure knows what he's talking about, as FEU showed impressive form in the offseason by placing second in the 2013 Unigames, where they eliminated three-time reigning UAAP champion De La Salle University.

On the other hand, the Lady Warriors, who were winless in Season 75, look to end the drought this year.

That would be easier said than done, however, as coach Boy Dalistan would have to take on the giants of the UAAP sans his mainstays like Leuseht Dawis, Shiesa Nebrida and Grace Masangkay.

The trio has opted to not suit up this season, pushing Faith Bulan and rookie Shaya Adorador to the spotlight.

The game will air live over Studio 23, BALLS SkyCable HD 167 and uaapsports.tv with a same day replay on BALLS SkyCable channel 34/ Destiny Cable channel 36.
